By Raffi Chilingirian | February 16, 2024

Syntia Salha is a Lebanese MEPI TLS student, and as a young woman, she faced various challenges when she decided to join a football women’s team. She encountered cultural stereotypes and occasional discouragement from teachers and social media. However, she was fortunate to have a support system of friends and family who believed in her. Balancing her education with her passion for sports was another hurdle she had to overcome.

Syntia’s determination and resilience led her to join a women’s football team, despite the barriers she faced. With the unwavering support of her loved ones, she embarked on a journey to prove that gender should never limit one’s dreams. Her talent and hard work earned her a spot on the U15 national team in 2018, marking the beginning of her international career. Syntia’s dedication pushed her to new heights, and she eventually reached the senior level, becoming a source of inspiration for aspiring female athletes.

Syntia’s journey defied the notion that women’s sports deserve less media exposure and funding. Her remarkable achievements highlight the importance of recognizing and supporting women in sports. By advocating for increased media coverage, funding, and equal opportunities, Syntia and other talented female athletes are breaking down barriers and paving the way for future generations of athletes to follow their dreams.

When asked how the MEPI TLS program played a vital role in Syntia’s journey, she says, “Throughout the way, there are doubts that always creep in, on whether you’re good enough or if you’re going to make it or not. MEPI reminds us that hard work, commitment, and passion have no gender boundaries. I’d like to say for every athlete out there, go shatter the stereotypical beliefs and do what you love, no matter the sport.”

Syntia’s story is a powerful testament to the strength of determination, support, and challenging stereotypes. Her journey encourages everyone to defy societal expectations and pursue their passions, regardless of the sport or industry. Syntia’s success is not only inspirational but also sends a clear message that women deserve equal recognition and opportunities in the world of sports.
