From Lebanon to Ottawa: The Inspiring Journey of Ghina Abdul Baki Pursuing a Ph.D. in Economics
Celebrating our alumni who are achieving success in their fields, we’re highlighting the success story of Ghina Abdul Baki, a MEPI alumna from Lebanon.
Currently pursuing her Ph.D. in Economics at the prestigious University of Ottawa, Ghina has already achieved so much in her academic career. She has been selected as the university’s Graduate Economic Association president. And not only that she also serves as a research assistant and teaching assistant for the challenging econometrics course.
When asked about her success, Ghina credits the MEPI TL Program, which she says was instrumental in teaching her the importance of balancing leadership, civic engagement, and academic performance. “Without LAU MEPI TL program I wouldn’t be here!” she says with gratitude and appreciation.
Ghina’s passion for her work is visible, and her dedication to her studies has clearly paid off. Her research with Dr. Walid Marrouch, her MA supervisor at LAU, was published in Resource and Energy Economics - a theoretical paper on emission taxation contributing to environmental economics and industrial organization.
This is a remarkable achievement and success.
Recently, Ghina had the opportunity to participate in the Early Career Environmental and Research Workshop, where she presented her work and received encouraging feedback from expert attendees. She also took the time to share her Ph.D. experience and offer helpful tips to students at LAU during a talk with the economics club.
Ghina’s story is a testament to the power of hard work, perseverance, and a commitment to excellence. She is a true inspiration to us all, and we are positive that she will continue accomplishing new achievements in the future.
