Ms. Dareen Fayyad, a MEPI TLG alum (’24) and a distinguished graduate of the MA program in Applied Economics, has made significant accomplishments in her career, building a path as a pioneering economist and educational leader. Her academic journey and dedication to economic research have earned her widespread recognition, including the Best Presentation Award at LAU’s Research Day Conference.

Reflecting on her passion for education and research, Dareen says, “Education is not just about gaining knowledge, but about applying it to uplift others and create change.” This belief has guided her through years of hard work, including her role as a graduate assistant in LAU’s economics department and her pivotal contributions to various research projects on gender economic inequality, financial inclusion, and impact evaluations.

Dareen’s leadership extends beyond the university setting. As the co-founder, Head of Logistics and Operations, and Director at Success Sawa, she has empowered over 600 high school students by helping them discover scholarships and career paths. “Seeing the students I work with succeed and pursue their dreams is the most rewarding part of my journey,” she shared. Her work at Chain of Education, a tutoring organization she led, has also helped enhance educational outcomes for countless students, ensuring they receive the guidance and resources needed to succeed academically.

After graduating in Spring 2024, Dareen launched her professional journey as a Research and Coordination Intern for the Knowledge Project at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). This role marked a significant step in her career, aligning with her passion for using economic research to create meaningful societal impact. “The ability to contribute to large-scale projects that promote sustainable development and inclusivity is a dream come true for me,” Dareen reflected.

Looking ahead, Dareen envisions returning to LAU as a Ph.D. graduate in Economics, eager to share her knowledge with the next generation of leaders. She also plans to expand Success Sawa further, ensuring that all students, regardless of their backgrounds, have access to the educational opportunities they deserve. “I want to give back by helping others unlock their potential and realize that they, too, can achieve their dreams,” she said.

Dareen Fayyad’s journey is a powerful testament to the impact that passion, hard work, and a commitment to empowering others can have on individuals and communities alike. Her story serves as an inspiration for anyone aspiring to lead with purpose and make a lasting difference.
