Building a Better Society: Rasha Shalha’s Vision for Post-Detention Reform
February 19, 2024
Rasha Shalha, is a talented Lebanese TLG alum with a master’s degree in Migration studies. Upon graduation, she directed her focus to reform juvenile justice, a crucial step in building a better society. With great determination, Shalha came up with a project to establish a post-detention reform center for youth, where young individuals will receive the needed therapy and guidance to help them start a new chapter in their lives and overcome the challenges they face.
Together with two of her colleagues, Shalha worked on a project proposal entitled Methli Methlak (You Are No different) that describes in detail the rationale behind establishing such a center and the much needed impact of this initiative if implemented.
The project was pitched to the Youth Leadership Programme (YLP) and was able to make it to the finals. Additionally, the project was pitched to the Professional Development Fund-IREX.
As a result, the Methli Methlak project was among the 5 winning projects that have been selected for funding under the MEPI Leaders Grants, as part of the MEPI Alumni Connection.
MEPI TL program supported Rasha on her project in Methli Methlak which as a project that aims at delivering awareness sessions on how to facilitate the reintegration of juveniles into society after completing their sentence in jail. The team is currently delivering the sessions to organizations, municipalities and universities. The team also collaborated with the Ministry of Social Affairs to deliver these awareness sessions to the community at the Social Development Centers (SDG).
