Fundraising for Haiti
In cooperation with the Byblos Campus Student Council, the TL students organized a weeklong campaign (February 19-27, 2010) on the Byblos campus to raise funds for the victims of January’s catastrophic earthquake in Haiti. The students set up donation stands and ran various activities to collect money. Some of these activities were: giving awareness-raising flyers, organizing a “Tombola” - a raffle where LAU students could purchase tickets to win over 100 prizes, including airline tickets, selling mugs and stress balls, as well as bottles of water and donuts. A stand-up comedian, Tony Abou Jaoude, was invited by the TL students to the event and gave a performance at the Selina Korban Auditorium. In addition, some of the TL students visited the weekly LAU Model United Nations training sessions, which were held in Beirut and Byblos for high school students, to give presentations and promote their cause. The campaign raised a total amount of L.L. 6, 769,000 (~$4,500), which was donated in April 2010 to the Lebanese Red Cross who in turn forwarded the amount to Haiti’s Red Cross.
