A LAU MEPI TL Senior Wins Capstone Project Prize and Attends an International Congress in Sweden

Mira El Saleh a LAU MEPI TL Senior from Lebanon was between the three winners who were selected  by the The Capstone project award committee for year 2019. With a Major in Nursing, El Saleh’s Capstone Project « Bank of Hope » forecasts a new perspective on service care volunteering for seniors ; By winning the Capstone Prize, El Saleh got the opportunity to participate in the 9th International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics European Region Congress 2019 (IAGG-ER) that took place in Gothenburg, Sweden from 23rd to 25th of May 2019.

The congress theme for 2019 was ‘Towards Capability in Ageing – from cell to society‘. The theme discussed various scientific enquires and aging matters; whether in biological science, medical and health sciences, social sciences, humanities or aging services.

During the congress, researchers from Canada, Brussels, Sweden and India projected different studies that tackle obstacles facing population aging from subjective, contextual and daily life perspectives.

Though El Saleh might have been the youngest participant in the conference, but she was confident enough to present the « Bank of Hope » project that caught the attention of the audience.The three-day congress formed like an education hub for El Saleh, she was exposed to new methods and best practices in nursing and service care.

« This conference helped me observe the « Bank of Hope » project from different angles and equipped me with the adequate tools to implement the project successfully. » El Saleh affirmed. El Saleh academic and professional skills were strengthened significantly during her time at the program. She attributes her leadership skills and enhanced knowledge to her time with the MEPI program.
