Boutayna Ben Hmida Explores the Realm of Culture in MEPI TL Program and Transmits this Wealth to her Peers
At the one- year mark since the start of the pandemic, here is an inspirational story of a TL student who relied on three essentials to cope with the pandemic and keep inspiring others : Acceptance, resilience, and response.
Starting university while staying home was rarely easy for TL student Boutayna Ben Hmida from Morocco. Instead of being in-person on campus while learning and interacting, Ben Hmida was pushed to online learning at the « comfort of her home », but this was anything but comfort to her as shifting to virtual courses deprived her of exploring new cultures and a new lifestyle.
Given the current condition, Ben Hmida delved into the cross-cultural online learning framework designed by the LAU MEPI TL program which provided her with alternative perspectives and helped her broaden her horizons.
Starting from the concept of giving back to the community, Ben Hmida took part in a two-day- training workshop targeting highly motivated and ambitious high school and university students who are looking forward to being involved in leadership activities and want to study abroad and promote cultural exchange. During her intervention as a guest speaker, Ben Hmida stressed on the importance of cultural variation and its important role in shaping one’s personality, referring to her personal experience at LAU MEPI TL program
In her very first year in the MEPI TL program at LAU, Ben Hmida was able to gain everything from communication, public speaking, and networking, and most importantly being exposed to new cultures and transmitting this wealth to her peers
